What is the Audubon Society?

Named after John James Audubon the The National Audubon Society is an organization devoted to the protection and conservation of birds and their natural habitat. The Audubon Society or simply Audubon as it is referred to was started in 1905 and is among the oldest organizations in the world with this type of focus.

In addition to the National Audubon Society there are several others with varying names that were founded several years earlier. These smaller organizations were named after states in the USA: for example, Massachusetts Audubon Society and Connecticut Audubon Society.
